During the Revolution Louis-Léopold Boilly became close to Jean-Baptiste Isabey who introduced him to several of David's students, including the Baron Gros. The above drawings represent students of the Baron Gros' workshop, and feature a number of well known artists, including Delaroche, Bonington, Charlet, Bellangé as well as Philippon, Pajou and de Caisne (as per the Musée Carnavalet website).

The style and the layout of the group portrait certainly bring to mind the Montagnard Republicans of 1793 engraving (see below), the author of which is unknown.
