1.

Collot dHerbois' sword. Ink drawing by Jacques Émile Marie Joseph Hilpert, renowned military artist and illustrator.

The drawing was executed after a photo published in Passepoil magazine in 1927. Collot dHerbois' sword was sold at an auction in Lyon in 1912. The sword is described as:

"Chisel grind in gilded bronze, regular army model except as regards the cross-guard piece, which consists solely of a very large exterior half-shell measuring 115 x 63 mm, which features a club supporting a helmet & surrounded by flags and laurel leaves, the whole richly decorated with fine carving and gilding. Ribbed ebony handle with ring and medallion detail. Conch shaped pommel. Triangular blade, gilded and tinted in blue. Leather scabbard with gold trim."

Collot d’Herbois. Plate in faïence de Nevers china, dating probably from the second half of XIX century.

The image of Collot is based on the portrait by Raffet (see XVIII and XIX Centrury Portraits for more information on the Raffet portrait).

"The French Revolution: The wall of Remembrance. The Universal Memorial of Great Republicans." Postcard with photo of a colour lithography poster printed for the first centennial celebrations of the Revolution.

The image of Collot d'Herbois is based on the engraving after A. Lacauchie.

Among the great Republican figures also fearuring in the poster are William Tell, Washington, Siéyès, Bailly, Vergniaud, Barbaroux, Marat, Robespierre, Danton, Saint-Just, Rouget de Lisle, Baboeuf, Rousseau, Voltaire, Victor Hugo et al.

Committee of Public Safety. Decorative faïence plate made by U&C (Utzschneider & Compagnie), Sarreguemines. Circa 1890.

The image is reminiscent of the engraving by E. Bure/F. Philippoteaux (see Scenes for more information on the Bure/Philippoteaux engraving).

The members of the Committee of Public Safety represented on this plate are, clockwise from left:
Carnot (standing near the map), Robespierre and Couthon (sitting), Billaud-Varenne and Collot d'Herbois (standing), Barère (at the far end of the table), Prieur de la Marne (addressing Carnot), Saint-Just.

The image of Collot appears to be based on the Montagnard Republicans of 1793 engraving.

The agenda contains a portrait of Collot d’Herbois by Michel Ducros, 1988.

The portrait is based on the engraving by E. Thomas after H. Rousseau.
